Soundfirm invests in Colorfront for DolbyAtmos DCP Mastering

Soundfirm have invested in Colorfront's Transkoder for the creation of DCPs in both Sydney and Melbourne, in a move that centralises deliverables on all feature film projects undertaken by the facility.

Colorfront recent announced that it's Transkoder platform has been certified by Dolby Laboratories for the creation of DolbyAtmos Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs).  Soundfirm run Australia's first and only DolbyAtmos mix stage at their Melbourne Facility.

With the expansion of the Transkoder’s toolset to include support for Dolby’s object-based audio format, post production studios can now leverage Transkoder’s extreme performance to create DolbyAtmos DCPs at up to ten-times faster-than-realtime, making Transkoder a reliable, cost-effective and feature-rich alternative to other systems.

Soundfirm CEO Roger Savage said, “In Melbourne we offer Australia’s only Dolby Atmos Mixing and Mastering stage. Now with Colorfront’s Dolby-certified Transkoder in the workflow, we can power our way to final 2K and 4K DCPs, including a full Dolby Atmos sound mix and subtitles. This continues our tradition of working at the vanguard of cinema innovation.”

Glitch

I’ve been working with Soundfirm for over thirty years and it’s always a pleasure.  The facility complies with the most rigorous international standards, the working environment is very comfortable and the team are friendly, diligent, patient with Producers and attuned to the creative as well as the financial needs of your show.  And the management team always communicate clearly so there are no surprises.  I look forward to returning soon”.  Ewan Burnett – Producer - 'Glitch.'

Soundfirm has completed the sound post production for the ABC’s 6-part drama series, ‘Glitch,’ due to air on the 9th July 2015 in Australia.

‘Glitch’ follows Sergeant Hayes (Patrick Brammall), whose world is turned upside down by a discovery that he makes on a call-out to the Yoorana cemetery: - six people with no memory of their identities.  Who are they and what has happened to them?

Soundfirm’s team crafted a sound track that really adds to the narrative, providing additional drama with the clever use and mix of dialogues, music, FX and atmospheres.

Helen Field, Soundfirm’s Senior Producer, said “it has been fantastic to work with Ewan, Louise and the Matchbox Pictures team on ‘Glitch.” “The sound crew here been an integral part of the creative team to help bring this series to life and we are excited to see how it  captures the public’s imagination.”

Glitch starts Thursday July 9 on ABC. #GlitchTV

“Soundfirm were both investors and the post production house for ‘Women He’s Undressed.’  The crew at Soundfirm were dedicated to the task of completing the film on time and the result is excellent.  I am grateful to the excellent staff at Soundfirm Sydney for their professionalism and dedication...”

Damien Parer- Producer

Soundfirm have completed the full picture and sound post production on Gillian Armstrong’s ‘Women He’s Undressed,’ a feature-length documentary that chronicles the life of Academy Award winning Australian designer Orry-Kelly.  Unfamiliar at home, the Kiama born designer created wardrobes for the silver screen from the 1930s to 1960s.  Kelly’s design credits include; Hollywood’s biggest studios, most memorable stars, and films hits such as ‘Some Like it Hot’ and ‘An American in Paris.’

Soundfirm CEO, Roger Savage, said “we were involved in this film from a very early stage, both as investors in it, and as the picture and sound post production facility. Our team in Sydney have done a fantastic job, especially with their treatment and management of the archive content.  We’re confident that the story of Kelly’s life will have tremendous appeal, and do very well.”

Paul Willey, General Manager, added: “this film is a great example of the holistic approach we are now taking when working with Producers and Directors: from the closing of production finance, to the management of specialist in-house and local freelance talent, we’re genuinely coming on board as an integral part of the team, from development to delivery.”

Lest We Forget What? ABC2.

Soundfirm have completed the editorial and audio post production on Kate Aubusson's documentary ‘Lest We Forget What?’ for the ABC, ahead of ANZAC Day Commemorations.

Editorial (offline) was based at Soundfirm’s Sydney facility, and further accommodated at their building on Fox Studios, to facilitate extra edit time and moving schedules.  Broadcaster screenings were also undertaken in Soundfirm’s broadcast-edit room, both on the Dolby PRM Monitor, and on our 4k client viewing monitor.

Soundfirm’s Diego Ruiz expertly cut, pre-and-final mixed the film, as well as undertaking the recording of ADR, and a narration track.

When we reflect on WWI what are we remembering? The facts, or just one small part of the ANZAC story, a story steeped in legend? Ask yourself this question when ANZAC Day comes about - Lest we forget what?

Soundfirm’s General Manager, Paul Willey said “Diego (Ruiz) should be very proud of his work on this project.  He worked tirelessly to ensure that the broadcast track was the perfect mix.  The support we offered this film, both commercially and creatively, proves our desire to ensure that quality documentary plays a key role in Australia’s TV-watching culture.  Our facilities are set-up to offer just that sort of support and flexibility to film-makers in the factual space now.”

The film airs on Sunday 19th April, repeated on the 22nd at 9.30pm, ABC2.
